Furnace Repair in Ottawa

When the furnace stops in an Ottawa winter, you need someone who will find the fault, tell you the price and fix it. HEC Ottawa repairs furnaces for homes and businesses across the city, and because our electricians are on the same team, a problem that turns out to be electrical does not need a second company.

Signs your furnace needs repair

  • It runs but blows cold or lukewarm air
  • It will not turn on, or the thermostat calls for heat and nothing happens
  • It starts and shuts off every few minutes (short cycling)
  • New noises: banging, squealing, rattling or a loud hum
  • Some rooms stay cold while others are warm
  • Your gas bill has crept up without a change in how you use the house

Three quick checks before you call

These solve more no-heat calls than you would think, and they take two minutes:

  • Thermostat — set to Heat, set above the room temperature, and with fresh batteries if it uses them.
  • Furnace switch and breaker — the switch near the furnace (it looks like a light switch) is on, and the breaker for the furnace has not tripped.
  • Filter — a filter packed with dust can shut a furnace down on a safety limit. If it is grey and matted, change it.

If all three are fine and there is still no heat, call us. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call Enbridge Gas or 911 from outside.

What a repair visit looks like

  1. We find the fault. We check the system properly rather than guess and swap parts.
  2. You get the price first. We explain what failed, what it costs to fix and the scope, before any work starts.
  3. We fix it and test it. The furnace is run through a full heating cycle before we leave.
  4. We leave it tidy. You know exactly what was changed and why.

Repair or replace?

Most furnaces last somewhere around 15 to 20 years. If yours is near that age and the repair is a big one, it can make more sense to put the money toward a new system. We will give you both numbers and an honest recommendation, and you decide. See furnace replacement and installation.

Questions

Furnace repair questions

How much does furnace repair cost in Ottawa?

It depends on what has failed. A sensor or igniter is a very different job from a blower motor. We diagnose the problem first and give you the price and the scope before any work starts, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Do you repair all furnace brands?

We work on the common furnace brands found in Ottawa homes. When you call, tell us the make and model from the label on the unit if you can, and we will tell you what to expect.

How soon can you come out?

It depends on the day and what is already booked. Call us and we will tell you the soonest we can be there rather than guess. For anything that is not urgent, booking online is the quickest way to lock in a time.

Do you also fix heat pumps and air handlers?

Yes. We repair and service furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers and rooftop units. See heat pumps.

Which areas do you cover?

We serve Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Orléans, Barrhaven, Gloucester and Stittsville. If you are not sure you are in range, call and ask.
